Magnificent Mimi Leseos

Magnificent Mimi is one of my favorite wrestling performers. For my interests and fantasies, she has got it all! She's got the looks, body, personality and skills to be my very own dream girl. A rare yet stunning combination of looks, attitude and wrestling ability. She caught my eye from the first second I saw her.

Nevertheless, being a fan of Mimi's does not come without it's set of frustrations. There is a fair amount of material out there featuring her in the ring, and she was even in several full length hollywood movies most of which involved wrestling or fighitng. Nevertheless, much of the incredible potential Magnificent Mimi has in my mind has gone untapped.

Be that as it may, I would like to concentrate on the half-full cup for a moment.

Mimi is a high flying wrestler with lots of moves. She looks undefeatable to me. She's fought against some of the top talent in women's wrestling including Madussa Micelli, Candi Divine, Leilani Kai, Judy Martin, Susan Sexton and others. The better her opponent, the better her moves. She would rise to the occasion every time. She could take bumps and dish it out too. She worked with the AWA for a while and was a regular on the LPWA show while it lasted.

From the half-empty cup perspective, I simply didn't get to see her lose enough. Also, she would have made an INCREDIBLE Wonder Woman.

Straight from the "Jonnie R can't catch a break" files, Mimi was suppossed to go up against Susan Sexton for the LPWA championship. I was totally psyched. These matches were always 2-3 falls which usually meant that we got to see both girls get pinned at least once. This is the same circumstance under which Misty Blue took a piledriver and got pinned. 2-3 falls.

I could not wait until the following week to see this match. The day finally arrived and I was not disappointed. The match was going very well. Mimi pinned Sexton for the first fall. The second fall began and I knew this was my moment. This was my opportunity to see the powerful, stunning and confident Magnificent Mimi taking a beating. I only hoped that she wouldn't get pinned as a result of cheating or a quick pin. That would have really bummed me out. Susan Sexton really took it to Mimi in the second fall. She suplexed her, slammed her and pretty much dominated her for the entire fall. Then the moment of truth arrived. Mimi was dazed, weak and disoriented. Sexton lifts her up on her shoulders and sets up for her patented finishing move, the Electric Chair. Mimi is up on her shoulders. She knows what's about to happen and her eyes reflect panic. Sexton falls back and Mimi comes crashing on to her back. I saw her helpless and dazed for the first time. This is the stuff I LIVE for! Mimi is in big trouble! Sexton crashes down on the helpless Mimi with a full body slam! This is it! She grabs Mimi's leg and covers her for the pin. The ref counts 1....2.....3!!!! Mimi has been pinned. It was a beautiful thing!

Some of you may be scratching your heads right now and saying that this sounds awesome. How could I possibly be talking about this in less than GLOWING terms?

Well, a couple of things. For one, Sexton's pin of Mimi was simply glorious, but we didn't get a good camera angle on it. Also, the camera didn't linger on Mimi at all during or after the pin. Mimi's reaction to being pinned was awesome, but, once again, there was no close shot. The main problem, however, was something that I have never seen before or since in any wrestling match. They went to a commercial after the second fall, and when they came back they announced that the match was over. No third fall. No seeing Mimi in action after taking a pounding. No matter who would have won, I am sure the third fall would have been a huge victory for me.

I have tried to find out what happened on that day, but no luck so far. I always suspected that Mimi was injured for real in a move gone wrong. Right before the pin, they were both outside the ring. Susan appeared to slam Mimi onto the apron. It looks like Mimi's legs were supposed to hook onto the ropes and keep her suspended upside down, but she wound up falling from the apron down to the floor. It looks like she landed on her shoulders. Furthering my suspicion that something went wrong, it looks like Susan asks Mimi if she's ok.

I contacted Susan Sexton online once and asked her about this. She didn't seem to recall exactly what happened, but did say something about Mimi's contract calling for her not to lose on TV.

No matter what happened that day, there was tremendous potential that went untapped.

The LPWA folded a year later and I haven't seen Mimi wrestle very much since. I've seen her movies and followed her career, but the all-elusive "squash" remains a fantasy in my head.

Misty Blue, Wendy Richter, Madussa Micelli, Teri Powers, and some other wrestlers all share the same problem with Mimi in my book. Not enough footage of their defeats. That simply makes the rare footage available even more valuable to people like me. Perhaps future technologies will make it so I can take these wonderful powerful women and use their images in computer generated matches that I will create. It's not that far fetched, you know.

One more brief point on potential not fulfilled, it turns out that Mimi did a video for Golden Girls very early on in her career. She fought the incredible Belinda Belle in what should have been a dream come true. Unfortunately for me, the match was different from what I would have wanted. For starters, it was prior to Mimi's breast augmentation, but I could easily live with that. The thing that really disappointed me was the horrible bikini they gave her to wear. I simply could not get past it. Also, the action wasn't great, Mimi lost by submission and worst of all, there was no drawn out shot of the vanquished Mimi on her back. Alas, another missed masterpiece!

Hollywood- 2

I never really thought I would ever get to meet Hollywood, and here I was with the opportunity to meet her again the next evening.

She was working with another former GLOW wrestler, Cheryl "Lightning" Rusa, that evening, and we made plans to meet for a late dinner.

There was a brief moment, after work around 8:00 pm that I actually considered calling to say I can't make it because I was totally exhausted. I can't believe that I actually gave that option about 20 seconds of serious consideration. I shouldn't have even considered it at all, but at worst, it should have been given about 3 seconds.

Having regained my sanity after this brief lapse, I got in the car and started driving to the restaurant. Like the night before, the signs saying "Hollywood" made me smile... until I realized that I was going in the wrong direction! Damn!

Then I get a text message from her saying they're were almost done working. Damn!!!

Drama and nerves aside, I made it pretty much on time and found myself sitting at the dinner table with Hollywood & Lightning. For someone like myself, this was an incredible experience. Sitting with these two women was so much fun.

Cheryl Rusa is extremely nice. She has these piercing blue eyes and great arms. She was able to share great stories about her wrestling and about some of my other favorite performers.

Jeanne was great! It was even more fun the second night. She is beautiful, intelligent, energetic, down to earth and the list goes on and on. Given her work and my interests, we have a tremendous amount of things to talk about. She is passionate about her work and seemed to enjoy discussing it.

I knew in advance that this would be a short dinner. We started late and Jeanne had to work for Double Trouble early the next morning. She was going to work with comic book legend George Perez. This is the man who wrote & drew Supergirl & Wonder Woman for DC Comics among other notable achievements.

We said our goodnights in the parking lot and all went our respective ways.

I was absolutely euphoric on the drive back to the hotel. I had SUCH a great time with these two women. I couldn't believe it.

Meeting Jeanne was a fantastic experience. I was a huge fan of the character she plays. Now that I have met her, I am a fan of hers as well.

Glow Superstar "Hollywood"

My heart was racing as I drove north on the 101 freeway towards Hollywood. I had been on this road before, but this time was different. It was as if the signs were talking directly to me.

I glanced nervously at the clock. We were on schedule. I checked the map quest directions again and again to make sure we were going the right way. We were.

I smiled while passing yet another sign that was there that night just for me. It said "Hollywood."

Up ahead was the exit. Western Avenue and Santa Monica.

A quick flashback to 1989, the first time I recall ever being here. I was nervous then too. Nervous, anxious & excited. I was going to the legendary Hollywood Tropicana, the world's most famous women's wrestling club. It was pre-Internet and I really didn't know what to expect.

Back to 2006. The tropicana is long gone, but that feeling is there all over again.

Left on Santa Monica. We were about 10 minutes away. This was real. It was going to happen.

The cell phone ringtone snapped me away from my thoughts. Glancing at the caller ID, I saw it was her. Some last minute directions. It was really going to happen! I was moments away from meeting her for the first time...

Hollywood is a true legend in the wrestling and superheroine worlds. Whether in GLOW, Playboy, Married With Children, We've Got It made, or with her own video production company, Hollywood has always turned heads and make pulses race.

Hollywood is the total wrestling package. Gorgeous, outrageously sexy and very hot, she knows how to wrestle and she can do all the physical moves.

I have often stated that the true measure of a wrestling performer is the ability to convincingly sell a beating. Mia Walters became a legend for Double Trouble wrestling for that very reason.

Hollywood has perfected that ability and brings something extra to it. She has the looks, body, athletic skills, and personality to play a powerful, confident, cocky, and unbeatable character convincingly too. This makes her defeats that much greater when they occur.

Mia was great at selling and had the athletic ability, but she couldn't convincingly pull off playing the powerful confident character as well. Stacy Burke is another phenomenal performer, but I really have to strain my imagination to be able to easily accept her as an overwhelmingly powerful woman.
Shelly Berg, on the other hand, plays overwhelmingly powerful and undefeatable very well, but she's not as effective when playing the loser. She's good, but not great. Alexis Taylor is another example of a woman who has the look & attitude to play powerful and confident, but she simply is not able to convincingly sell a beating.

For my specific interests, Hollywood has it all, and unlike some of my other icons like Misty Blue Simmes and Magnificent Mimi, she has a lot of great material out there.

Things got even better when she started her own production company and began making her own videos.

One day, out of nowhere, she suddenly appeared in a video playing a character inspired by Wonder Woman. I couldn't believe it! I ordered the video immediately and when it finally arrived I couldn't wait to see it. This was back in the late 90's and there wasn't a lot of quality heroine material out there. I didn't expect very much from the video, but I was pleasantly surprised.

First, she looked absolutely stunning in the costume. Beyond stunning. She looked beautiful. Second, the video catered to my fantasies, something the TV show with Lynda Carter did not do often enough, especially in seasons 2 & 3.

For some reason, I imagined that this would be a one-time thing. It wasn't. Eight years later, she is still playing the character and shows no sign of slowing down.

Hollywood's webkitten.com web site has a great selection of wrestling and heroine related material and she only gets better & better with every new release. Over the years, I have had the privilege of helping her with a number of scripts and was able to place her in situations I had only fantasized about.

We had almost 8 years worth of email correspondence between us, yet we had never met. There were a couple of "near misses," but it looked as if we were not destined to meet. Until now...

I saw her from about 50 feet away and waved. At least I think I waved. All I know is that my arm was shaking for some reason.

And there she was. In the flesh. Almost twenty years from the first time I saw her on TV.

"It's great to finally meet you!"

Ok, let me get away from the "glow by glow" report and cut straight to it. Jeanne is indeed gorgeous!

I cannot recall the last time I saw a woman that beautiful up close.

I cannot recall ever seeing a pair of jeans look that good on anyone.

It quickly became apparent that she's even cooler than she is she is breathtaking.

She has a tremendous energy about her and we sat there talking as if we had known each other forever. I sat there glued (glowed?) to every word she said. I know this sounds like a cliche`, but I became oblivious to everything around except what has happening at our table. Time and space became irrelevant. I was having a great time!!!

Speaking of time, the clock brought me back to reality and it was time to call it a night. Lucky for me, one of my best friends had joined us for dinner, someone who knows me inside & out.

He would later tease me about the dumbstruck look I had on my face all night, but at this point he knew that I would not be so bold as to try to make future plans with Jeanne. I'm always conscious of the fact that for these women this is a job and thought that it was incredibly cool that Jeanne came out to meet me socially. I didn't want to push my luck.

Fortunately, my friend is not as nervous as I am and suggested that we all meet again tomorrow night. She thought that was a good idea too and we made plans to have a late dinner the next night after she finished a job she had to do. WOW!

More on that in my next posting. For now I just want to wrap things up by marveling at some interesting facts. Hollywood is an icon in my fantasy world. She wrestles, plays super heroines and is a great performer. She's beautiful and hot. Nevertheless, I walked away that night amazed at how nice she is. How cool she is. How much fun she is to be around. The fact that she is gorgeous (and she IS) became secondary. All I can say is that there is one lucky person out there who makes her eyes sparkle, and I hope he knows how lucky he is.
